Roughly 48 hours after losing in double overtime on home ice, the Vegas Golden Knights got their revenge Monday night in San Jose.
William Karlsson scored 8:17 into overtime to give Vegas a 4-3 win over the Sharks and a 2-1 lead in their best-of-seven series.
James Neal dropped the puck off for Karlsson in the neutral zone and this season's breakout star did the rest, outpacing the Sharks defense and firing a shot off the crossbar and in behind Martin Jones.
Karlsson had helped the Golden Knights jump out to a 3-1 lead with a sublime assist on Reilly Smith's second-period tally, but the Sharks tied things up with two unanswered goals in the third.
In his return from suspension, Evander Kane scored to cut the lead in half and Tomas Hertl tied the game with 1:57 remaining in regulation when he fired the puck past Marc-Andre Fleury in a netmouth scramble.

Fleury made up for it in the extra session by robbing Logan Couture of what looked sure to be the game-winner.

Vegas failed to convert on two power play opportunities early in the overtime period, but Karlsson stepped into the starring role for the Golden Knights once again when it mattered most.
The expansion franchise improved to 2-1 in overtime games in its first trip to the Stanley Cup playoffs.
The two teams will remain in San Jose for Game 4 on Wednesday night. Puck drop is scheduled for 10:30 p.m. ET.
