The NHL Awards are presented each year to the league's most outstanding players, general manager and coache in a variety of categories. With the exception of the General Manager of the Year award, trophies are based on regular season achievements.

Three trophies are based on regular season statistics, and therefore don't necessitate nominees or a vote, but are presented to the winners at the ceremony. Dallas Stars forward Jamie Benn will be presented with the Art Ross Trophy for most points (87) and Alexander Ovechkin of the Washington Capitals will receive the Maurice "The Rocket" Richard Award for top goal scorer (53). Montreal Canadiens goalie Carey Price and Chicago Blackhawks goalie Corey Crawford will accept the Jennings Award on behalf of their teams, which tied for the fewest goals allowed (189).

Who are the nominees for the NHL Awards?

Each NHL award has three nominees and most winners are selected by the Professional Hockey Writers Association, the NHL's general managers, or the NHL Broadcasters Association or a panel of judges selected by the NHL.

The PHWA selects the winners of the Hart, Norris, Calder, Selke, Masterton and Lady Byng, the GMs pick the winner of the Vezina, the NHLBA selects the Jack Adams winner, and select members of the PHWA and NHLBA vote for the winner of the King Clancy Trophy, which has a winner but no finalists. A panel of judges chooses the winner of the NHL Foundation Award, Mark Messier picks the winner of the award bearing his name, and the players vote on the Ted Lindsay Award. The General Manager of the Year award selected by the 30 club general managers and a panel of NHL executives, print and broadcast media, who all cast their voted at the end of the second round of the playoffs.
