When the NHL's stars descend on St. Louis for All-Star Weekend from Jan. 24-25, some of the top women's hockey players in North America will also hit the ice at Enterprise Center.

On Friday, during the NHL's All-Star Skills Competition, members of the Canadian and United States women's national teams will battle it out in a 3-on-3 game. A fierce, long-standing rivalry that has seen these countries battle for Olympic and World Championship gold almost every tournament, each roster is comprised of nine skaters, one goalie and a Hall of Famer coach: Cammi Granato (USA) and Jayna Hefford (Canada). The Athletic's Hailey Salvian reported that the women will not compete wearing national team garb, but rather "something entirely new."

"It's pivotal for the women's game," Hilary Knight told Sporting News. "Obviously we've been involved with the NHL in different extents and to be part of the NHL  All-Star Weekend and to have our own event is a tremendous opportunity.

"We're definitely gonna bring it. There's a lot of pride on the line, every time you split us up into that rivalry. It just naturally comes out of our fabric but it's going to be a fun-filled game. I mean, obviously all these women here, extremely skilled and I think the fans are gonna have a lot of fun watching."

The game marks the third consecutive year women will participate in the NHL's All-Star Weekend. A member of each team will also compete in the All-Star Skills Competition's "Shooting Stars" event that will see competitors aiming for targets on the ice while suspended approximately 30 feet off the ice behind a goal.
