Linus Ullmark trade details: Senators land Vezina Trophy winner in deal with Bruins image

The Bruins' dynamic goaltending duo is no more.

After splitting time with Jeremy Swayman in Boston this past season, Linus Ullmark is headed to the Senators in a deal that was announced by the Bruins on Monday.

Ullmark took home the Vezina Trophy with a breakthrough season in 2022-23, winning 40 of 47 starts for a record-setting Bruins team, but he largely split time with Swayman this season. When the playoffs arrived, it was Swayman who earned Boston's trust — and likely a long-term deal — making Ullmark's future with the franchise murky.

Senators goaltenders had a combined .888 save percentage this season, the worst mark in the NHL.

Here's a look at the details of the Bruins' deal with the Senators.

Linus Ullmark trade details

The full details of Ottawa's trade for Linus Ullmark are below:

Senators receive

  • G Linus Ullmark

Bruins receive

  • G Joonas Korpisalo (25 percent of salary retained)
  • C Mark Kastelic
  • No. 25 pick

The No. 25 pick in Friday's draft is the prize of the deal for the Bruins, and it actually once belonged to the franchise. Boston traded the pick to Detroit for Tyler Bertuzzi in 2023, and it was later re-routed to the Senators in a deal for Alex DeBrincat.

Korpisalo started 49 games in goal for the Senators this past season but spent the bulk of his career with the Blue Jackets. He has a career .903 save percentage and 3.06 GAA but saw those marks move to .890 and 3.27 in a rough year with Ottawa. Korpisalo gives the Bruins a legitimate No. 2 option behind Swayman with Ullmark out of the picture.

Kastelic has spent three seasons in the NHL, posting 10 points on five goals and five assists across 63 games this past season. He was originally a fifth-round pick of the Senators in 2019.

The Senators are set to move forward with Ullmark as their primary goaltender for the 2024-25 season. Here's a look at how long the 30-year-old could stick around in Ottawa.

Linus Ullmark contract

Ullmark is under contract through next season for $5 million. He's in the final year of a four-year, $20 million deal.

The Bruins are expected to give Swayman a significant contract extension, so Ullmark and his salary were believed to be on the way out this offseason. The Senators will absorb the final year of Ullmark's deal and hope he can add some stability as their primary netminder in the team's first season under coach Travis Green.
