Tavares opened the scoring for New York early in the second period. He received a pass in front of the net and sent a shot that bounced off Arizona goalie Louis Domingue into the top left corner.
Later in the period, Tavares gave the Islanders the lead for the first time with a deflection that snuck past Domingue and into the back of the net.
Tavares completed the hat trick and put the Islanders in front for good with just over seven minutes to play. He redirected a slap shot from Adam Pelech that banged off the bottom of the cross bar for a goal.
Tavares also added an assist in the victory that moved New York to 5-3-1 this season.
