The Rangers wasted no time getting the upper hand in their first-round series against the Devils, thumping their rivals 5-1 in Game 1 on Monday.

Rangers forward Chris Kreider scored twice and Igor Shesterkin turned aside 27 shots as the Devils dropped the first game at the Prudential Center.

"Just because you win one game doesn't put you in a position to play any different," Rangers head coach Gerard Gallant said. "Get ready for the next game and move on."

The Devils looked nervous in the team's first postseason game since 2019. Tuesday's contest was the first playoff game for a number of New Jersey members, including star center Jack Hughes, who scored the lone goal for the Devils.

New Jersey has a chance to even the series with Game 2 on Thursday before crossing over the Hudson River for Games 3 and 4 at Madison Square Garden. Meanwhile, New York is aiming to take a 2-0 series lead back home to the Big Apple.
