The #NJDevils today signed center Nico Hischier to a seven-year contract extension with an average annual value of $7,250,000.
Hischier has been productive in his first two seasons, scoring a combined 37 goals and adding 62 assists. He has no goals and two assists through six games in 2019.
"Nico is a special person who possesses a team-first mentality combined with an inner drive to succeed," general manager Ray Shero said in a release. "The entire organization is thankful to him and his family for believing in our future. We are excited that he will continue to play a prominent role with us for many years to come."
The winger is one of several No. 1 picks on the Devils' roster as New Jersey has placed 2019 first-overall pick Jack Hughes on the team to start the year.
New Jersey also has Taylor Hall, who won the Hart Trophy in 2017-18 and was the No. 1 pick by the Oilers in 2010.
Locking up Hall will be the team's likely next priority as he is set to become a free agent after the 2019-20 season.
