Dallas Stars forward Corey Perry did not get to wear his special Winter Classic jersey for long on New Year's Day — but one lucky fan will soon own it forever.
The NHL and Fanatics listed the jersey as open for auction — with the hilarious denotation "WORN DURING FIRST PERIOD" in the item's title — before the Stars had even completed their 4-2 victory against the Predators in the 12th NHL Winter Classic.
Perry's ejection just two minutes and 44 seconds into the first period at Cotton Bowl Stadium on Wednesday caught a lot of attention during the day's festivities. It first dawned on fans and media that the penalty was a minor historic moment (Perry is the first player to receive a game misconduct in the Winter Classic) and then earned fame as a meme on Twitter thanks to the long walk from the outdoor ice surface to the stadium's locker rooms.

Perry received 15 penalty minutes for his elbow to Predators defenseman Ryan Ellis' head and will likely face supplemental discipline after his hearing with the NHL's player safety department on Friday. It seems he won't get to keep the jersey he wore for just 38 seconds of ice time, unless he chooses to bid on the item himself.
The auction, which is scheduled to last until Jan. 14 at 9:19 p.m. ET, has already seen 14 bids come across for Perry's briefly game-worn jersey. Bidding currently stands at $900.00 with 12 days remaining. Anyone interested in owning the jersey can bid on it here.
