At just 20 years of age, Connor McDavid is already one of the best players in the NHL. He was recognized as such Wednesday night as he won the Hart Trophy (league MVP) and the Ted Lindsay Award (players' MVP). In addition, he was announced as the cover athlete for the upcoming "NHL 18" video game.

"Representing 'NHL 18' as the cover athlete is an incredible honor," McDavid said in a statement. "I've played EA SPORTS NHL every year since I was kid. To appear on the cover, something that has been done previously by so many players that I respect and admire, is very exciting. I can't wait to play 'NHL 18.'"

McDavid scored 100 points in the regular season (30 goals, 70 assists) and helped lead the Oilers to their first playoff appearance and series win since 2006.

"NHL 18" will include a new arcade mode called "NHL Threes," the addition of a Defensive Skill Stick, and expansion capabilities to add a 32nd team in Franchise Mode. An online beta will be conducted from July 26-Aug. 2 to test its various online modes; users  can sign up for that here . "NHL 18" will release for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One on Sept. 12 (special edition)  and Sept. 15 (standard edition). The game is available for pre-order on Amazon where Prime members will get it for 20 percent off.
