Best NHL prop bets tonight: Alexander Ovechkin, Dougie Hamilton highlight top Capitals-Devils parlay picks image

After the frenzy on ice in the NHL last night, the league followed up its 16-game slate with one lonely matchup tonight. The Capitals, fresh off a loss to the Maple Leafs, will make the trek up the East Coast to New Jersey where they'll battle the Devils at Prudential Center. Washington is still on the hunt for win No. 2 as it works to find its groove under new head coach Spencer Carbery.

For the Devils, offense hasn't been the issue thus far, as they've been lighting the lamp with ease in the new season. Their second straight five-goal performance put them in the win column for the third time in five tries thanks to a power play unit that's scoring at will.

In a battle between Metropolitan Division foes, we'll head over to SuperDraft as a way to try and make some money as we enter the second half of the week.

SuperDraft users can win 3X the amount wagered if their two-legged player prop parlay hits. If all four of the props below hit, users will win 10x their entry. In other words, a $20 entry fee will yield a $200 payout. the more legs you add to your player prop parlay, the larger your potential payout becomes, but as the long odds indicate, completing a clean sweep is challenging.

Below, we'll break down four of our favorite player props for Wednesday night's showdown between the Capitals and Devils. Users don't necessarily have to parlay all four picks together, though. Instead, you could make separate two-legged parlays to increase your win probability or attempt to hit it big if all three picks come through.

Best Capitals-Devils prop bets: SuperDraft player prop picks for Wednesday

*10x potential payout if users parlay all four correct picks

1. Dougie Hamilton, D, Devils — OVER 0.5 points

Yesterday, we told you to take the OVER and rely on Hamilton to secure a point in Montreal. Today, we're telling you to do the same. Hamilton continued his hot streak with at least a point in each of the Devils' first five games. New Jersey's top defenseman gets power play time for a unit that's on fire right now, and tonight he'll be against a team with the second-worst penalty kill in the league at 68.18 percent. The Devils own the best power play unit in the league, scoring at a 44-percent rate. In a battle between first and almost worst, something will have to give. We'll ride the hot hand and believe in Hamilton to get us a goal or an assist on Wednesday night.

2. Alexander Ovechkin, LW, Capitals — OVER 4 shots on goal

Just like Hamilton, we're riding the hot hand here, too. Ovechkin is OVER this number in his past two, recording a ridiculous 14 shots on goal against the Maple Leafs last night. In doing so, Ovi scored his first goal of the season, but he couldn't drag the Capitals to victory. Still with only one win thus far in five tries, expect Ovechkin to keep firing as he tries to get Washington into the win column again.

3. Hunter Shepard, G, Capitals — UNDER 29.5 saves

Welcome to the show, kid. The 27-year-old is set to make his debut tonight in Newark, and his only task is trying to shut down one of the league's best offenses. Yeah -- welcome to the show, indeed. As scary as it sounds, the reality is that the Devils have recorded 170 shots through five games, averaging out to 34 per game. We'll need 30 saves to cash this wager, but Washington has been fairly solid defensively despite their 1-3-1 record, evidenced by holding Toronto to 17 shots last night. They have allowed the second fewest shots in the league, 149, and should hunker down in their own end to protect Shepard from being shelled all night long. It remains to be seen whether the Capitals will pull him if things get out of hand, but Shepard's path to 30 saves is a tough one. Take the UNDER.

4. Jesper Bratt, LW, Devils — OVER 0.5 assists

As with Hamilton, our strategy remains simple. Target a hot power play unit. Bratt, unlike Hamilton, plays on the top unit and has six assists in five games, including each of the past four. If special teams fails to come through, there's always the second line alongside Ondrej Palat and Nico Hischier, a group that hasn't found its goal scoring touch yet. Bratt has proven to be enough of a playmaker through the years to give us confidence that he'll be involved when the Devils get on the scoresheet.
