Andrew Shaw wedding: Nuptials cap life-changing year for Canadiens' forward image

Andrew Shaw's wedding to the stunning Chaunette Boulerice this past weekend put quite the exclamation point on a busy, and life-changing, past 14 months for the pugnacious Montreal Canadiens' forward.

It all started in June of 2016 when Shaw was traded for the first time in his career, dealt to Montreal after winning a pair of Stanley Cups with the Blackhawks. Shortly thereafter, Shaw signed a six-year contract with the Canadiens, securing his future and setting him up to become an unrestricted free agent at age of 30 in the summer of 2022.

Shaw cemented the future of his personal life, as well, last summer, becoming engaged to Boulerice on August 2.

In mid-December, Shaw suffered a concussion and missed a month's worth of games, the first serious injury of his career. A second concussion followed in the Habs' first-round playoff loss to the Rangers, capping a frustrating first season in Montreal for Shaw, who finished with 29 points and 110 penalty minutes in 68 games.

"That's one of the toughest things about being a hockey player: dealing with injuries, not being out with guys every day, going out there and competing to the best of your abilities due to injuries," Shaw told the club's web site. "But we came together. Even though we had a lot of guys injured and out, we still found ways to win close games, and it builds character as well. Obviously, I wasn't satisfied with my personal stats, but I've put that aside to do what I could to help the team win."

Fully healed and healthy again, Shaw and Boulerice visited Europe in May before the couple exchanged vows Saturday in Toronto with many of his current and former teammates on hand to celebrate their happy day.

There will be no big honeymoon -- the trip earlier in the summer took its place -- as Shaw now shifts his focus to the upcoming NHL season.

"I'm going to make sure that I come back in the best health that I possibly can be, and the best shape as well," Shaw said on the Canadiens' site. "It's going to be a big year for us."
