It has been a busy offseason for the Washington Commanders as they prepare for the 2024 NFL Draft.

Former head coach Ron Rivera was fired in January, leading to an extensive search for his replacement. The Commanders wound up landing on former Dallas Cowboys defensive coordinator Dan Quinn. With Quinn and Joe Witt Jr. running the defense, Washington also hired Kliff Kingsbury to run the offense.

The Commanders made some big acquisitions on both sides of the ball in free agency. They added running back Austin Ekeler, center Tyler Biadasz and guard Nick Allegretti on offense, and they signed edge rusher Dorance Armstrong and Dante Fowler from the Cowboys. They also added Frankie Luvu and Bobby Wagner to bolster the linebacker room.

But much of the offseason has been about what the Commanders will do with the No. 2 pick. With six selections inside the top 100 of the draft, they'll have a chance to build a strong foundation if they hit on some of their picks.

Commanders' NFL Draft needs

  • Quarterback: It's rare for teams to be picking this high in the draft with the chance to select a franchise quarterback. With Marcus Mariota currently atop the depth chart, the quarterback position remains the biggest need for the Commanders.
  • Offensive Line: Protecting the incoming quarterback is going to be a major objective for the new regime. The entire offensive line should include additions during the draft, especially at the right tackle position considering Andrew Wylie allowed nine sacks in 2023.
  • Wide Receiver: Terry McLaurin is a dynamic threat at all levels of the field, and Jahan Dotson has had some flashes during the first two seasons of his career. But the Commanders hold six picks in the top 100, and they'd be wise to use one or two of them at the wide receiver position.
