Tennessee Titans' Ran Carthon: Roster decisions won't be 'pissing matches' image

On what was the first day of training camp on Tuesday as players reported, Tennessee Titans general manager Ran Carthon met with the media and touched on several topics, including the process of making roster decisions.

Of course, the Titans have some time to cut their roster down to 53, which will take place following the preseason on August 27. But when that time comes, Carthon revealed it would be a collaborative effort.

Carthon did note that ultimately the decision will be made by himself and head coach Brian Callahan, but stressed that the process of getting there would be a team effort. And, he had an interesting way of getting his point across.

"I've gotten off the word — I know it's the buzzword — but it's going to be a collaborative thing," Carthon said. "It's not going to be one of those pissing matches, if you will. Everybody that we have brought here, we brought here together. There are going to be some decisions, whether this month, next month, a year form now, where we're not going to be on the same page. But then that's when it becomes a collective. It's not just Brian (Callahan) and myself, we have other people who are involved in the process and have a vested interest in it. We're going to have all of us involved, but I know ultimately it comes down to Brian and I. And, so, whatever decision that's made is going to be made in the best interest of the team and not a power thing between Brian and I."

While we obviously can't say for sure, one has to wonder if that's a soft shot at former head coach Mike Vrabel, who had more control over the roster in Carthon's first year.

Whatever the case may be, the theme of Carthon's tenure thus far — collaboration — is alive and well.
