DeAndre Hopkins injury update: Latest news on Titans WR's Week 1 status image

The Week 1 status of Tennessee Titans wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins has been up in the air since he suffered a knee injury last month that has kept him sidelined ever since.

Hopkins was originally diagnosed with a strained knee after suffering the injury in practice on Wednesday, July 31, and he was given a four-to-six week timeline to return, per reports.

It has now been four weeks since the injury and Hopkins did not return to practice this week. However, head coach Brian Callahan offered a positive update on his superstar wide receiver following practice on Thursday.

Here's the latest.

DeAndre Hopkins injury update

According to Jim Wyatt of TennesseeTitans.com, Callahan said that Hopkins is "progressing" and "in a good place" in his recovery, and how he feels during practice next week will ultimately determine whether or not he suits up.

"He's progressing, and he's in a good place," Callahan said. "It will just be a matter of how he feels during practice next week. … As long as he feels good and feels he can play at a high level, he'll be ready to roll."

That's definitely an optimistic update. We shouldn't read too much into Hopkins not practicing this week, as the most important thing is him getting on the field in the days leading up to Week 1. An experienced pro like Hopkins doesn't need a ton of time to get himself ready for a game, even after a long absence.

Hopkins will play a key role in Tennessee's passing attack in 2024 after serving as the No. 1 option in 2023 for quarterback Will Levis, who is entering his second season in the NFL.

Hopkins will have a lot more competition for targets thanks to the signings of both Calvin Ridley and Tyler Boyd. However, he'll also have a full season with Levis, something he didn't have in 2023, and the Titans figure to throw the ball a lot more.
