Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Baker Mayfield has the attention of a guy named Tom Brady.
Brady, appearing on Fox Sports after Week 1, listed Mayfield as one of his three top stars of the week and even joked he wished that he had rostered the Buccaneers star on his fantasy football team.
"Baker, I wish I took you in fantasy," Brady said. "But a great start. Finding Mike, finding Chris, having that type of performance at home. That’s exactly what the team needs. Great job."
The praise is well deserved, too. Mayfield went 24-of-30 for 289 yards and four passing touchdowns, simply dicing up the Washington Commanders in a 37-20 rout. Chris Godwin caught all eight of his targets for 83 yards and a score, while two of Mike Evans’ five catches went for touchdowns.
Mayfield’s outburst was merely the latest after his showing last year went a little under the proverbial radar. There, he completed 64.3 percent of his passes over 17 games for 4,044 yards and 28 touchdowns, all career highs.
Now, it’s safe to say Mayfield’s got the attention of everyone—and might be on a few Brady fantasy football teams in the near future.
