The Seattle Seahawks have announced several roster moves heading into tonight's prime-time matchup with the San Francisco 49ers.
Here is a quick review of the team's game day moves for this week.
Uchenna Nwosu placed on IR
The lead story is that outside linebacker Uchenna Nwosu has officially been placed on injured reserve. Nwosu suffered a thigh injury in his season debut on Sunday against the New York Giants. Thus, he will miss the next four games. Derick Hall is listed as questionable but likely to play in Nwosu's absence. He leads the team with five sacks. However, Boye Mafe is also listed as questionable.
OL McClendon Curtis waived
Last year's undrafted free agent pickup McClendon Curtis has been waived. He offered depth at offensive tackle as well as guard but couldn't crack Seattle's rotation. Curtis has only been on the field for 23 special teams snaps in five games over the last two years.
CB Artie Burns signed off practice squad
With starter Riq Woolen ruled out for tonight's game, the Seahawks needed some depth at cornerback. Thus, they've signed veteran Artie Burns off the practice squad. In Seattle Burns has mostly worked in the slot but he has far more experience on the right boundary from early in his career with Pittsburgh and Chicago. Rookie Nehemiah Pritchett will likely start in Woolen's place, but Burns should be the next man up in the rotation.
NT Cameron Young activated off PUP list
The Seahawks are also missing a big piece in the middle of their defensive line, as rookie Byron Murphy II will be sitting out his third straight game with a hamstring injury. Good news: they'll get at least a little bit of interior depth back with second-year nose tackle Cameron Young getting activated off the physically unable to perform list. Young will be behind Johnathan Hankins and Jarran Reed on the depth chart.
Practice squad moves
After not making any practice squad elevations last week against the Giants, the Seahawks are using two standard elevations this week on outside linebacker Jamie Sheriff and safety Ty Okada, who were both preseason standouts. Sheriff offers depth on the edge in case Mafe or Hall are out, while Okada offers insurance in the case free safety Julian Love (questionable) winds up being on the inactives list.
