The Seattle Seahawks are not who we thought they were. At least not when they were 3-0, relatively healthy and having the best defensive unit in the NFL on the year. A flurry of injuries to key defensive players is the team's greatest problem, and the personnel drain seems to have also sapped the unit's confidence along with their ability to tackle, which had looked so sharp the first few games of the season.
Offensively the picture is better, with a couple notable exceptions. The results at right tackle have gone from bad to worse to a raging, uncontrollable tire-fire, and neither offensive coordinator Ryan Grubb nor starting quarterback Geno Smith seem to be able to adjust.
Smith is also consistently under pressure thanks to poor pass protection at both guard positions, as long-time veteran Laken Tomlinson looks about ready to retire and the combination of Anthony Bradford and Christian Haynes has been an awful disappointment so far in 2024.
Avoiding pressures and throwing on the run is something Smith did about as well as anyone last season, with the exception of Patrick Mahomes. This year Smith seems to be having much more trouble dealing with that pressure, though - and he currently leads the NFL with six interceptions thrown. Smith is in good company, at least... sort-of. Three other quarterbacks have also totaled six picks this year: Mahomes, Will Levis and Anthony Richardson.
As for the other end of the spectrum, among QBs with at least four starts Justin Fields, Justin Herbert, Lamar Jackson and Jacoby Brissett have all thrown just one interception.
