The San Francisco 49ers selected receiver Ricky Pearsall in the first round of the 2024 National Football League Draft, adding him to a loaded offense that was in desperate need of some cheaper playmakers after Deebo Samuel signed a massive new contract last year and at the time Brandon Aiyuk was dealing with his own contract dispute.
Pearsall has been in and out of training camp due to injuries which has put his NFL career already on to a rocky start. Then, this past weekend Pearsall was shot in San Francisco's Union Square.
San Francisco police later confirmed Pearsall and the suspect were shot during a struggle for the gun. Pearsall was shot through the chest and then taken to San Francisco General Hospital, where both he and the suspect were in stable condition on Saturday night. The next update came from Erin Pearsall, Ricky's mother, who posted on Facebook on Sunday morning that the bullet entered Pearsall's chest and went through his back while avoiding vital organs and that he is in good spirits right now.
The 49ers released a statement on Sunday afternoon with the update that Pearsall had been released from the hospital. Pearsall appears to have gotten very lucky and the team confirmed he is back home recovering from the bullet wound. The 23-year-old still has a bright future ahead of him in the NFL and in a loaded offense conducted by Kyle Shanahan.
