The 2024 National Football League regular season is just about two full weeks in.
Week 2 action was surprising and exciting, and there now is just one more game to go until we are on to Week 3 action. With two games under each team's belts -- aside from the Philadelphia Eagles and Atlanta Falcons -- they now have a better understanding of areas of the franchises that need to be improved.
Bleacher Report's scouting department put together a list of each team's "biggest weaknesses" and ways to fill them in free agency right now, after the season, and in the National Football League Draft.
For the Cincinnati Bengals, the defensive line was mentioned as a weakness. Because of this, Bleacher Report mentioned former San Francisco 49ers lineman Mike Purcell as a possible fit right now.
"Add Now: (defensive tackle) Mike Purcell," Bleacher Report said. "It's no surprise that the Bengals have had some offensive struggles. Joe Burrow is working himself back into the groove of live action, Ja'Marr Chase missed a lot of training camp, and Tee Higgins has missed both games.
"There's not as much hope that the run defense will turn itself around. Replacing D.J. Reader with Sheldon Rankins has yet to do much to help the problem. Adding another veteran to their interior rotation might be a good idea, and Purcell is a free agent with 45 career starts."
Purcell began his National Football League career with the 49ers and spent the first three seasons with the team from 2014 through 2016. He joined the Denver Broncos ahead of the 2019 season and was with the team through the 2023 campaign. Purcell still is available and could make some sense for Cincinnati.
