The San Francisco 49ers dealt with injuries at the receiver position this season. They could look to add some depth this offseason to avoid a repeat situation next year.
The Buffalo Bills traded for Amari Cooper this season, but he will hit free agency now that the season is over. FanSided's Nick San Miguel urged the 49ers to sign Cooper for depth.
"The Niners went through countless running backs last season, so adding Cooper would guard against a similar situation occurring with their wide receivers," wrote San Miguel. "The Alabama product did not have the strongest 2024 season, with 547 receiving yards and four touchdown receptions in 14 games, six with the Cleveland Browns and eight with the Bills."
Although the receiver room was not as decimated as the 49ers running back group, it had its fair share of injuries. Brandon Aiyuk tore his ACL, Deebo Samuel missed two games, Ricky Pearsall missed six games and Jauan Jennings missed two games. Cooper could serve as insurance with a high upside. He would likely not demand a huge contract.
"If the 49ers could get him on a one-year contract, it could be a good way to boost their wide receiving corps and guard against any injuries that may occur in 2025," wrote San Miguel.
The 49ers could also be looking for a receiver if Samuel is released as a cap casualty. Regardless, adding a veteran receiver like Cooper should be a move the 49ers consider this offseason. Cooper is a five-time Pro Bowler with 10,033 career yards and 64 touchdowns. He can still be a productive player, even at this point in his career.
