It sounds like the San Francisco 49ers may end up losing one of their top offensive players in the near future.
San Francisco has been in the rumors over the last few months as the future of star receiver Brandon Aiyuk has been very much in question. The two sides have discussed a possible new contract but haven't been able to come to terms on a deal.
There have been rumblings that the 49ers could trade Aiyuk and it seems like that may end up being the most likely option as he officially requested to be traded on Tuesday, according to NFL Network's Mike Garafolo.
"Source: 49ers All-Pro WR Brandon Aiyuk has officially requested a trade after an offseason of unsuccessful attempts to reach an extension," Garafolo said. "Despite a recent meeting, the Niners haven’t been willing to engage in negotiations since May so Aiyuk has respectfully asked out."
Aiyuk has developed into one of the top receivers in football since being drafted by the 49ers but it sounds like his time with the team sadly could be coming to an end.
The 49ers still could have one of the top offenses in football even without Aiyuk, but it certainly will be harder now. San Francisco still should be considered one of the top Super Bowl contenders for the 2024 season but it is a sad day with Aiyuk possibly on his way out of town.
