Quarterback Brock Purdy is the latest player to join the San Francisco 49ers’ growing injury list.
Purdy, who played every snap of the 49ers’ 27-23 loss to the Los Angeles Rams, is listed as day-to-day with back soreness, head coach Kyle Shanahan said Monday. Shanahan added that his quarterback had a clean MRI.
Purdy played well against the Rams, completing 22 of his 30 pass attempts for 292 yards and three touchdowns with a 137.1 passer rating. He also carried the ball 10 times for 41 yards.
He was hit three times and sacked once, the ninth time he’s been sacked this season.
Shanahan gave updates on his other injured offensive stars on Monday. He reported that All-Pro running back Christian McCaffrey traveled to Germany to visit a specialist about his Achilles tendonitis and would remain overseas for a few days.
There has been no change to the status of wide receiver Deebo Samuel, who remains out with a calf issue.
Tight end George Kittle, who was also inactive against the Rams, continues to deal with a hamstring injury. Shanahan said he’s hopeful the five-time Pro Bowler will resume practicing this week.
San Francisco (1-2) hosts the New England Patriots (1-2) on Sunday at Levi’s Stadium as they try to avoid their first three-game losing streak since they lost to the Browns, Vikings, and Bengals in October of 2023.
Of course, the 49ers were able to rebound and win seven of their last nine regular season games before making their second Super Bowl appearance in five years.
