The Pittsburgh Steelers have multiple problems at the wide receiver position going into Week 6 of the 2024 season, as it appears their No. 1 wideout, George Pickens, isn't happy right now and the team is still lacking depth at the position.
While the Pickens situation is another matter entirely, the Steelers might be able to address their need at wide receiver ahead of the Nov. 5 trade deadline, as multiple wideouts could become available.
One of those wideouts is Tennessee Titans receiver DeAndre Hopkins, who is in the final year of his deal on a team that looks to be going nowhere following a disastrous 1-3 start.
In a recent article naming potential trade suitors for some of the top players who may be available via trade, Bleacher Report's Kristopher Knox lists the Steelers as a potential suitor for Hopkins.
"The Steelers, who aren't getting quite enough from their passing attack, could be interested (in Hopkins)," Knox wrote. "Pittsburgh is 3-2 on the season but is still averaging just 178 passing yards per game."
The Steelers are rumored to be interested in star wide receiver Davante Adams, so they are clearly hunting for an upgrade at the position. Thus, it's very conceivable they'd be players for DHop if the Titans make him available.
Hopkins is long in the tooth at 32 years old, but he showed he still has some gas left in the tank after a 1,000-yard season in 2023. He's off to a rough start over four games of the 2024 campaign, but that's hardly his fault, as Tennessee's offense remains a mess because of shoddy quarterback and offensive line play.
Not only would Hopkins immediately provide an upgrade, the future Hall of Famer could also play mentor to Pickens, who would no doubt benefit from some veteran guidance from Hopkins.
The veteran wideout will be a free agent next offseason, so he could end up being a rental. But if Hopkins proves he's still got it, the Steelers will have ample cap space to bring him back on a short-term deal in 2025.
