The Pittsburgh Steelers will be without rookie wide receiver Roman Wilson for at least a few weeks after he suffered a sprained ankle in practice on Tuesday.

Knowing that, the Steelers wanted to add another body at wide receiver to their camp roster and did so by signing Tarik Black, the team announced. To make room, the Steelers waived defensive lineman Jonathan Marshall, who the team signed to a futures deal earlier this offseason.

Black originally entered the league as an undrafted free-agent signing of the Indianapolis Colts in 2021. He has also spent time with the New York Jets and Baltimore Ravens during his career.

The 26-year-old Texas product has played in just one game in the NFL, which came in 2021 with the Jets. He tallied one catch for 10 yards in that contest. Clearly, he won't do anything to move the needle at wide receiver.

Wilson is considered week-to-week with his ankle injury and the expectation is that he will be ready for the start of the season. Even still, the Steelers are in need of a significant addition at wide receiver to bolster what is a questionable group.

The Steelers held their first padded practice of training camp on Tuesday and will return to the field in pads once again on Wednesday.
