The Pittsburgh Steelers' shaky wide receiver situation got a bit more troublesome in Week 3 after Van Jefferson suffered an eye injury that forced his early exit and leaves him up in the air for Week 4.
But even before the injury, the Steelers needed to be exploring any and all options to improve their wide receiver corps. in order to put Justin Fields or Russell Wilson in the best position possible to succeed the rest of the season.
One player the Steelers should have their eye on moving forward is New York Giants wide receiver Darius Slayton, who Bleacher Report's Kristopher Knox thinks could be someone Pittsburgh looks to trade for down the line.
Here's what he wrote in his Week 4 "NFL Trade Block Big Board" on Wednesday:
Darius Slayton is part of another relatively harmless offense, but he at least has deep speed that secondaries have to respect. He's a functional deep target who could help open the offense up, and the Steelers desperately need to help Pickens and Fields.
Slayton would immediately be the second-best wide receiver in the Steelers' wide receivers room thanks to his past production. The 27-year-old has four seasons of 700-plus yards, which is more than every Pittsburgh receiver has combined.
Slayton can take the top off the defense and alleviate some of the pressure on No. 1 wideout, George Pickens, who defenses can currently key in on with few passing-game threats around him.
While the Giants would likely be willing to trade Slayton given the fact that he's on the last year of his deal, that will depend upon where they sit in the playoff picture come the trade deadline.
But there has been nothing to indicate that the Giants are going to be in a position to compete for a playoff spot this year, so it certainly isn't crazy to think that Slayton could eventually be made available at some point before the trade deadline.
