The Pittsburgh Steelers have been hit hard by the injury bug early on this season, and the running back position hasn't been immune to that.
Running back Jaylen Warren was forced to miss the Week 4 game due to a knee injury, and his replacement, running back Cordarrelle Patterson, exited the contest against the Indianapolis Colts early because of an ankle issue.
The loss of Patterson was particularly frustrating because the veteran running back was having a great game before his exit, rushing for 43 yards on just six carries and catching two passes for 19 yards.
Looking ahead to the Week 5 game against the Dallas Cowboys, both running backs aren't certain to play after both were listed on the injury report this week. Here's the latest update on both.
Cordarrelle Patterson, Jaylen Warren injury updates
According to the Steelers' final Week 5 injury report, both Warren and Patterson have been ruled out for the game against the Broncos. Neither player was able to log a single practice, which now leaves them up in the air for Week 6.
Pittsburgh is obviously extremely short at the running back position now. Najee Harris and Aaron Shampklin are the only other running backs on the 53-man roster.
We'll probably see Jonathan Ward elevated from the practice squad, and La'Mical Perine is another possibility if the Steelers want a fourth back.
