The countdown to the start of the Pittsburgh Steelers 2024 campaign has officially begun.

The Steelers will kick off the 2024 season with a road trip to take on the Atlanta Falcons on September 8.

In anticipation of the coming NFL season, we’ll be checking in at semi-regular intervals highlighting the most iconic Steelers players to ever wear a specific number.

With 83 days to go until September 8, today we’re celebrating No. 83.

Who is the most iconic player to wear No. 83?

Heath Miller, tight end, 2005-2015.

What makes Heath Miller so iconic?

Miller spent a decade as a trusted pair of hands for the Steelers offense. While Pittsburgh shuffled through a number of talented wide receivers during the same stretch of time, most notably Hines Ward and Antonio Brown, Miller was there year after year to deliver what was needed of him.

While his numbers rarely jumped off the box score, Miller was consistent, and his production added up over the long haul. Despite eclipsing 800 receiving yards in a season just one time, Miller finished his career with 6,569 receiving yards in Pittsburgh to go along with 45 career touchdowns.

Miller won the Super Bowl with the Steelers after the 2005 and 2008 seasons. In Super Bowl XLIII, he recorded five receptions for 57 yards in the Steelers’ victory over the Arizona Cardinals.

He announced his retirement from the NFL in 2016, having played all 11 seasons of his career in Pittsburgh.

Which other notable players have worn No. 83?

Wide receiver Louis Lipps is the most notable other player to have donned the No. 83 jersey for the Steelers, playing eight of his nine NFL seasons with Pittsburgh. You can take a look at every player who has worn the jersey here.

Who currently wears No. 83?

Connor Heyward, a tight end and fullback, and younger brother to All-Pro Steelers defensive tackle Cameron Heyward, currently wears No. 83 for the team.
