Jahan Dotson was on the field for 84% of the Philadelphia Eagles' offensive plays in Monday night's 22-21 loss to the Atlanta Falcons. Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts targeted the wide receiver just once.
For the record, Dotson made the catch, which went for 6 yards and gave Philadelphia a first down with 9:32 to play in the first quarter. For the game, Hurts completed 23 of 30 pass attempts for 183 yards. But the rest of those passes were thrown elsewhere.
Dotson, who was taken by the Commanders with the 16th overall pick in the 2022 NFL Draft, saw his participation increase to 57 plays on Monday night -- 25 more than the 32 he lined up for in the Eagles Week 1 win over the Green Bay Packers in Brazil.
The Eagles reached the red zone on the series Dotson made his catch. No points, however, came out of it due to Philadelphia turning the football over downs on the Atlanta 9-yard line. Dotson started in Monday's game along with DeVonta Smith and Britain Covey. Smith, Covey, tight end Dallas Goedert and tailback Saquon Barkley were the targets on 25 of the 29 Hurts pass attempts.
Smith was Philadelphia's leading receiver with seven catches off of 10 targets. He also caught Hurts' only touchdown pass late in the first half,
Monday's game was played without the Eagles standout wide receiver A.J. Brown, who is dealing with a hamstring injury. It was shared by Sporting News correspondent Ryan O'Leary that Brown will likely miss a couple of weeks as he recuperates.
That could open the door for Hurts and Dotson to become a deep threat combination that may be needed when Philadelphia visits the red-hot New Orleans Saints, who have scored a total of 91 points in wins over the Carolina Panthers and Dallas Cowboys.
