The countdown to the start of the Philadelphia Eagles 2024 campaign has officially begun.

The Eagles will kick off the 2024 season in unique fashion, taking on the Green Bay Packers in the NFL’s first ever game in Brazil on September 6.

In anticipation of the coming NFL season, we’ll be checking in at semi-regular intervals highlighting the most iconic Eagles players to ever wear a specific number.

With 91 days to go until September 6, today we’re celebrating No. 91.

Who is the most iconic player to wear No. 91?

Fletcher Cox, defensive tackle, 2012-2023.

What makes Fletcher Cox so iconic?

Cox was one of the pillars of the Eagles’ franchise through the past decade. Selected with the 12th overall pick in the 2012 NFL Draft, Cox played all 12 of his NFL seasons in Philadelphia, accumulating a total of 70 sacks, putting him fifth on the franchise’s all-time list. He was named an All-Pro four times in his career.

Cox was a key part of the defensive line that helped carry the 2017 Eagles to a Super Bowl win over the New England Patriots. The following year, Cox had one of his most productive on the field, totaling 10.5 sacks on the season.

After the 2023 season, Cox announced that he would be retiring from the NFL. Between his departure and that of center Jason Kelce, the Eagles now face a turning point for the franchise. That said, other pillars, including offensive tackle Lane Johnson and defensive end Brandon Graham remain with the team to help with the transition to the future.

Which other notable players have worn No. 91?

14 players have worn No. 91 in the modern era of football, per Pro Football Reference. The most notable is Reggie White, who briefly wore No. 91 after joining the Eagles before transitioning to No. 92. Beyond White and Cox, defensive lineman Andy Harmon did the most damage for Philadelphia wearing the number, putting up 39.5 sacks over his seven-year career with the Eagles.

Who currently wears No. 91?

The No. 91 is not currently worn by any player on the Eagles roster. It could be some time before a player attempts to step into the shoes of such an important figure for the franchise.
