By now, it isn’t a shock to hear Philadelphia Eagles head coach Nick Sirianni’s name mentioned near the top of NFL hot seat discourse.
Sirianni, who recently had to fend off Bill Belichick coaching rumors, ranks in the top five head coaches with the best odds to be the first head coach fired in 2024, according to BetOnline.
Typically, a head coach who is just a few years removed from a Super Bowl berth won’t surface highly in the minds of oddsmakers like this. But the infamous collapse after the 10-1 start last year, the re-tooling of both coordinator positions and the overhaul of how the team approaches training camp practices makes it so.
For his part, Sirianni hasn’t been shy in admitting that he knows where things went wrong.
"Yeah, I mean, I have some thoughts," Sirianni said, according to Jeff Kerr of CBS Sports. "We know. I don't think that's something for everyone to know. So, I definitely have some thoughts and I know that at the end of the day -- whatever product is out there on that field is my responsibility.
Much will have to go right for the Eagles, given the schematic and personnel changes. But given the talent in place, Sirianni has the wiggle room to make these odds look obsolete quickly—and last year’s collapse an anomaly.
