Much has been said and documented about the disconnect between Philadelphia Eagles head coach Nick Sirianni and franchise quarterback Jalen Hurts during the 2023 season. The Eagles went from 10-1 team in contention for the NFC’s No. 1 seed, to a 1-6 dumpster fire that led to change this offseason, most notably the hiring of new offensive coordinator Kellen Moore.

Sirianni has heaped praise upon Hurts’ approach and work ethic throughout the summer, and he didn’t hold back when asked about Hurts' recent comments on the radio regarding his role at the line of scrimmage last year.

Ever since I’ve been here, Jalen’s been all win, trying to do everything that he can do to win. So to say it’s been more, like … every year, 2021, ‘22, ‘23, he’s done everything that he can do to help this football team win and put every bit of his heart and soul into it. To say it’s more — I see the same Jalen. The guy that is working his butt off to help us win this first game. Working his butt off to make sure this team’s in a good position, and that he’s playing his best ball, because we know we need him to play good football for us to have a chance week in and week out.

Again, I think he’s had an outstanding, outstanding training camp just with everything, the way he’s played, the way he’s passed, the way he’s led, all those different things. So that’s what I’ll say. I just feel like he’s had an unbelievable training camp, and that every year that I’ve been here I’ve felt his desire and will to win. The guy is a winner. He’s been a winner his entire life, and he knows how to win and he goes about that process every day to win better than anybody I’ve ever been around.

The leader of the Eagles’ offense in recent seasons touched the ball on every play — only it wasn’t the quarterback. Center Jason Kelce was the main man in terms of setting pre-snap protections and adjustments. Hurts recently acknowledged during his weekly spot on 94.1 WIP that he’s excited to assume more command of the entire offense at the line of scrimmage in 2024.

"We had a great player in Jason Kelce who took on a lot of responsibility, and as a result of that I was told not to worry about a lot of things,” Hurts said. “And so my eagerness to learn over the years kind of was halted because of who we had, but now times are different and I'm excited for that journey and this opportunity."

Sirianni backed up Hurts’ comments Sunday, stating clearly: “This is his team.”

“Jalen Hurts is a player that has just continued to evolve as a player year in, year out,” the coach added. “If he feels like there’s a part of the game that he has to work on, if we feel there’s a part of the game he needs to work on — he attacks that thing harder than anybody. It’s really remarkable just the strides that he makes year in and year out.”
