Darius Slay ends crazy training camp streak: 'I know how to bait Hurts' image

Jalen Hurts’ remarkable training camp streak came to an end on the final day of practice.

The star Philadelphia Eagles quarterback had thrown 301 total passes in practice without an interception, but Darius Slay put an end to the streak early in Wednesday’s session.

Slay jumped a pass over the middle for the pick that ended Hurts’ run at 305 consecutive passes. The Eagles’ No. 1 cornerback told reporters after practice that he fooled the quarterback on the play.

“I know how to bait Hurts,” said Slay, who acknowledged that the defense has been aware of the storyline. “Threw a little rod out there and just reeled it in.”

According to Eagles Reporter Eliot Shorr Parks, who tracks every throw throughout training camp, Hurts broke the record of 157 consecutive throws a while ago:

Hurts entered Wednesday’s practice without starting TE Dallas Goedert, who was out with an oblique injury. He’s done most of his damage in training camp to top wide receivers A.J. Brown and DeVonta Smith, though Brown tossed some cold water on Hurts’ interception-less streak following joint practices with the Patriots.

New Eagles offensive coordinator Kellen Moore has raved about Hurts’ efficiency throughout training camp, noting the QB has struck a strong balance between protecting the ball and staying aggressive.

“He’s doing a great job with the football,” Moore said. “He’s still aggressive. He’s still trying to get the ball downfield. He’s trying to make plays. He’s just making really, really good decisions.”
