It's no secret that the Pittsburgh Steelers need help at the wide receiver position, as there are several question marks behind the team's No. 1 wideout, George Pickens.
As the Steelers continue to wait for a resolution in the Brandon Aiyuk saga with the San Francisco 49ers, the Washington Commanders and Philadelphia Eagles struck a deal on Thursday that sent wide receiver Jahan Dotson to the Eagles.
According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, Philly is sending Washington three 2025 draft picks, including one in the third round and two in the seventh. The Eagles are getting back Dotson and a fifth-round pick in the trade.
A former first-round pick, Dotson has failed to live up to the billing of his draft spot, tallying 1,041 receiving yards in 29 games over two seasons. It is fair to point out, though, that the quarterback situation in Washington hasn't been good.
While some Steelers fans might be scratching their heads over how Pittsburgh was not in on this trade when the team needs a receiver, there's a good reason why.
While he has spent the majority of his NFL career playing on the outside, Dotson is best suited as a slot receiver and the Steelers already have a pair of those in Calvin Austin and rookie Roman Wilson.
Granted, even if the Steelers had traded for him and put him outside, he's not enough of an upgrade over the current favorite for the role, Van Jefferson, to give up the draft capital necessary to get the deal done.
