The Tennessee Titans wrapped up their preseason schedule with an unblemished record. Tennessee recorded home wins over the San Francisco 49ers and Seattle Seahawks before a late touchdown drive sealed the road win in New Orleans.
Preseason records are rarely indicative of how a team will fare in the regular season. The 2008 Detroit Lions immediately come to mind, who failed to record a single win in the regular season following a 4-0 preseason slate.
The 33rd Team's Marcus Mosher recently published his "Post-Preseason Rankings For Every Team" and has the Titans ranked near the bottom, No. 26 to be exact. However, Mosher likes Tennessee's chance of going from worst to first in 2024.
Here was his analysis:
The AFC South is loaded with talent, but don’t rule out the Tennessee Titans yet.
They have a new-built offense and a head coach with an offensive identity. There is always a team that goes from worst to first in their division, and the Titans seem like a prime candidate to do that in 2024 if Will Levis can take a big step forward.
Following a 6-11 record last year, general manager Ran Carthon certainly left no stone unturned this offseason in improving the roster.
With notable additions on offense in Calvin Ridley, Tyler Boyd, and Tony Pollard, as well as the defensive side of the ball in Kenneth Murray Jr., Quandre Diggs, Jamal Adams, and Chidobe Owuzie, it's not hard to be hopeful for the Titans' chances this season.
Tennessee's record will live and die with the development of second-year quarterback Will Levis, who completed just 58.4 percent of his passes as a rookie, which was the lowest among all qualified quarterbacks in the National Football League.
However, the former No. 33 overall pick in the 2024 NFL draft looked noticeably improved in camp and preseason. Levis completed a combined 11-of-13 and guided the Titans to four scoring drives, including three touchdowns, in two preseason games.
Now, it's a matter of carrying preseason success into the regular season, where Tennessee will face a gauntlet in the first month. The Titans will travel to Chicago and Miami while hosting the Jets and Packers.
The first four weeks of the 2024 season will be telling. If Tennessee can come out 3-1 or 2-2, they will certainly see a rise in the power rankings as these lists evolve over the course of the year.
