Tyreek Hill's attorney has issued a four-page statement to the NFL that dismisses the child-abuse claims levied against Hill by his fiancee, Crystal Espinal, ESPN.com reported Thursday.
Hill was suspended indefinitely by the Chiefs after a recording by Espinal surfaced in which it appears she and Hill are heard discussing the state of their 3-year-old son.
In the letter obtained by ESPN, attorney N. Trey Pettlon not only stated that the allegations against Hill were either false or overblown, but also he accused Espinal of abusing the couple's son.
Addressing the part of the recording in which Espinal says, "He kept saying, 'Daddy punches me,' which you do when he starts crying. What do you do? You make him open up his arms, and you punch him in the chest," Pettlon says Hill never punched his son.
The attorney said there have been many times when Hill would tap his son's chest and say, "Man up, buddy" or "Don't cry, my man." Hill has denied grabbing the boy's arms or punching him in any way.
"(Hill) categorically denies he has ever 'punched' his son in the chest or anywhere on his body, or otherwise touched him in the chest in a mean-spirited manner or as a form of discipline," Pettlon wrote.
The letter also claims Hill didn't break his son's arm and that when the boy was taken to the hospital it was deemed an accident.
Pettlon did admit that Hill told Espinal, "You need to be terrified of me, too, b—" when she said their son was afraid of him, calling it "inexcusable."
However, he added that he has text messages between Espinal and Hill in which she admits she has left marks on the boy from spanking him, deeming that she abused the 3-year-old.
Pettlon said Hill is willing to meet with Chiefs and NFL officials as they conduct their investigations into the situation, adding that Hill would cooperate "to the extent that he can under the law."
Hill was suspended and barred from any team activities after the recording became public last week, with general manager Brett Veach stating the team learned of the recording at the same time as the public.
