Yahoo fantasy football participants finally got their wish last week when Green Bay Packers running back/wide receiver Ty Montgomery earned RB status, joining virtually every other major fantasy platform.
Packers coach Mike McCarthy believes Montgomery can handle a full workload at the position.
FANTASY: Week 10 RB rankings | Injury updates
"I think you have to get past his number, No. 88 (jersey)," McCarthy said Wednesday, via ESPN. "He's a 225-pound, and he's physical."
McCarthy called Montgomery a "three-down back." He has been used as a running back in recent weeks with both Eddie Lacy and James Starks injured. However, Starks might return this week.
"James is going to practice (Wednesday), we'll see it goes. Same with Jared (Cook)," McCarthy said. "We're going to put them in the limited category, but we're going to cut them loose today."
WEEK 10 PICKS: Straight up | Against the spread
Starks has been out since Week 4 with a knee injury. He was ineffective in limited work during the first four games, rushing for just 42 yards on 24 carries.
Montgomery was on a snap count last week after missing the previous week with a kidney issue stemming from sickle cell trait. Even when Starks is back, Montgomery appears to be McCarthy's preferred choice in the backfield.
