Trevon Diggs snagged one of the most lucrative deals among NFL cornerbacks on Tuesday.
According to reports by NFL.com's Ian Rapoport and Tom Pelissero, the fourth-year cornerback signed a five-year, $97 million contract — a deal that makes him one of the top five-highest paid players at his position. The deal will ensure one of the NFL's top ballhawks stays in Dallas.
Diggs, only 24 years old, already has an All-Pro and two Pro Bowl seasons just three years into his NFL career. He has 17 interceptions for the Cowboys, including an NFL-leading 11 in 2021. Though he had eight fewer in 2022, he still earned his second Pro Bowl nod as the Cowboys went 12-5 and fielded the No. 8 pass defense (6.2 yards per attempt) and No. 8 team in interceptions (16).
With that, the Cowboys secure one of their top defensive playmakers as the team attempts to return to the Super Bowl for the first time since 1995. Dallas still needs to work out a deal for premier EDGE defense Micah Parsons, and he will likely aim to be a top five-paid player at his position as well.
