Trevon Diggs contract details: Cowboys CB lands top-five deal for position with $97M payday image

Trevon Diggs snagged one of the most lucrative deals among NFL cornerbacks on Tuesday.

According to reports by NFL.com's Ian Rapoport and Tom Pelissero, the fourth-year cornerback signed a five-year, $97 million contract — a deal that makes him one of the top five-highest paid players at his position. The deal will ensure one of the NFL's top ballhawks stays in Dallas.

Diggs, only 24 years old, already has an All-Pro and two Pro Bowl seasons just three years into his NFL career. He has 17 interceptions for the Cowboys, including an NFL-leading 11 in 2021. Though he had eight fewer in 2022, he still earned his second Pro Bowl nod as the Cowboys went 12-5 and fielded the No. 8 pass defense (6.2 yards per attempt) and No. 8 team in interceptions (16).

With that, the Cowboys secure one of their top defensive playmakers as the team attempts to return to the Super Bowl for the first time since 1995. Dallas still needs to work out a deal for premier EDGE defense Micah Parsons, and he will likely aim to be a top five-paid player at his position as well.

Rapoport also noted the Cowboy CB's contract could swell to as much as $104 million, which would rank as the largest contract among cornerbacks in terms of total value.

Pelissero reported the deal comes with a $21.25 million signing bonus. Multiple reports indicate it also comes with $42.3 million guaranteed.

Diggs' five-year deal not only represents the biggest payday of his career — his first contract was worth $6.32 million over four years — but also makes him a top five-paid cornerback. It is only $3.5 million off the highest total value for a cornerback (Denzel Ward's $100.5 million), $1.6 million off the mark for highest AAV (Jaire Alexander's $21 million) and $2.2 million off most guaranteed money (Ward's $44.5 million).
