The optimism surrounding Trent Williams' return was short-lived.
According to NFL Media, the Redskins tackle did not report to the team's facility for practice Wednesday and he is expected to continue his holdout into the first week of the regular season, at the very least.
This was the expectation but now official: #Redskins LT Trent Williams did not show up at the team facility today to practice with his team. His holdout continues into the regular season and he won’t play Sunday — at least.

The report comes just a day after retired defensive back and Williams' former Redskins teammate DeAngelo Hall said on the "Hail to the Podcast" that the All-Pro could return "sooner rather than later." Hall's comments came after he previously said there was "zero chance" Williams would show up for Week 1.
Williams has been away from the team since the start of training camp, though it's unclear what it will take to get him back. It's been reported he had problems with how the team handled his medical situation and that a financial compensation could be the best way to patch things up, but Hall denied that was the case.
"It's not about money," Hall told told NFL Network last month. "That's what makes this so unorthodox and something we've never seen. We've never had a player say, 'Hey, get that training staff out of here or I'm not coming back.'"
Williams had surgery in April to remove a growth on his head because doctors were worried it was malignant. It was rumored after Williams failed to report that he could be traded, but coach Jay Gruden has said that isn't being considered.
A seven-time Pro Bowl selection, Williams has two years remaining on his five-year contract worth $68 million he signed in 2015.
The Redskins open the regular season on the road Sunday against the Eagles.
