Though Dak Prescott looked sensational in the preseason and had a solid NFL debut Sunday in a loss to the Giants, the Cowboys still are Tony Romo's team.
Cowboys owner Jerry Jones told the Fort Worth Star-Telegram Sunday he expects the 36-year-old quarterback will be able to return to the lineup "sooner rather than later."
MARVEZ: What Week 1 taught us
The Star-Telegram reports that could be as soon as the Oct. 16 game against the Packers, although a more realistic target would be the Oct. 30 game against the Eagles.
Jones said Romo, who has been out since Aug. 25 with a compression fracture in his back, had follow-up X-rays last week, and there were no signs of a setback.
Prescott, the former Mississippi State quarterback selected in the fourth round this year by the Cowboys, completed 25 of 45 passes for 227 yards in Sunday's 20-19 loss to the Giants. Romo looked on from the sidelines.
IYER: Prescott is not Dallas' problem
"Romo is upbeat,” Jones said. "He is just doing what he needs to be doing. He still has his support and will continue to have that support. It’s about not getting overzealous sitting down."
