Tom Brady lets Patriots rookie keep golden locks after strong debut image

One of the Patriots breakout rookies can certainly appreciate Tom Brady's latest proposal.

Chase Winovich turned heads in his debut Thursday night when he tallied 1.5 sacks in New England's 31-3 victory over Detroit.

In celebration, Winovich took to Instagram and posted two pictures — one of him at the line of scrimmage and the other wrapped around the legs of Lions quarterback David Fales. Winovich captioned the photo, "Well... that escalated quickly" and not soon after, Brady chimed in.

The veteran signal-caller told the rook, "Maybe you can keep your hair."

One of the Patriots' traditions is giving rookies terrible haircuts.

But Winovich remains a team player. The third-round pick out of the University of Michigan said if it came down to it, he would cut his hair.

"For me, it is a source of pride and strength to a certain degree playing football," Winovich told reporters earlier in the week. "But at the end of the day, it's just hair and if they really wanted to cut it, I wouldn't have any qualms about it. I'm part of a team. It's not about me. It's about what the team wants.

"I've expressed that to some of the leaders so I think that makes them less inclined to try to cut it anyways. That's kind of human nature."

He will have another chance to impress Brady and the rest of the Patriots when they travel to Nashville on Aug. 17 to face the Titans.
