Addae will join 2018 third-round pick Justin Reid and new acquisition Tashaun Gipson to fill the void left by Andre Hal, who retired last month. Houston will need all the help it can get after ranking 28th in the league in pass defense last season.
Addae, 29, was signed by the Chargers as an undrafted free agent in 2013. He signed a four-year contract, worth $22 million, with the team in 2017 and had $11.5 million in non-guaranteed money left on his deal when he was released in March.
He has started 59 of 80 career regular-season games — including all 16 games in each of the last two seasons — while also appearing in four playoff games. In six seasons with the Chargers, Addae has 372 combined tackles, 21 pass breakups, 4.5 sacks and two interceptions.
