The most important dynamic that the Houston Texans need to develop these next few weeks before the start of the 2024 season is the connection between quarterback C.J. Stroud and his new number one wide receiver, Stefon Diggs. So far, so good. Since his arrival Diggs has done nothing but earn the praise of his teammates and coaches, even though he's come to Houston with a bit of a reputation as a diva and locker room problem.
Here's what Stroud shared about Diggs and his approach earlier this week at training camp, per DJ Bien-Aime at ESPN:
"He's somebody who loves the game and doesn't cheat it, and that's why he's been successful and I think he'll continue that success... I'm blessed enough to, hopefully, be a part of that. That's some things that just stuck out to me. Just how personable he is, how relatable he is. He's really friendly and very vocal, so it's really nice to have him around."
Diggs is coming off a "down" 2023 season that saw him post over 100 catches, 1,183 yards and eight touchdowns. He was dealt to Houston in exchange for a 2025 second-round pick.
Even if the chemistry between Diggs and Stroud doesn't develop the way the Texans would like, he'll have plenty of other options. There's still a chance that Nico Collins will wind up being his preferred target. Last season Collins was just as productive as Diggs, totaling 80 catches, 1,297 yards and eight scores.
