The Tennessee Titans lost one of their projected starting offensive linemen on Tuesday when the team placed guard Saahdiq Charles on the reserve/retired list.
It was a shocking move to say the least, as Charles, 25, appeared to be the favorite for the starting right guard job throughout the offseason after signing a one-year deal with the Titans.
When asked about Charles' retirement on Wednesday morning, head coach Brian Callahan referred the media to the player himself for an exact answer, but he also stated that Charles simply didn't want to play football anymore, according to beat writer Paul Kuharsky.
Brian Callahan: Saahdiq Charles didn't have an event. Football wasn't for him anymore. Anything more has to come from him. #Titans

Callahan added that he was as surprised as the rest of us upon learning of Charles' decision to hang up his cleats.
Brian Callahan said Saahdiq Charles decision was a little bit surprising. Dillon Radunz will get majority of snaps at RG. Brunskill in that mix too.

With Charles now out of the picture, the Titans are going to give 2021 second-round pick Dillon Radunz the majority of the snaps at right guard, Callahan said, but last year's starter at the position, Daniel Brunskill, will also be in the mix.
On the team's first unofficial depth chart of 2024, Radunz was listed as the backup to Charles. Combined with Callahan's comment, it would appear he's the favorite for now.
The Titans will be able to evaluate Radunz and the rest of their players when the team takes the field for the first preseason game on Saturday against the San Francisco 49ers.
