When veteran safety Jamal Adams signed with the Tennessee Titans in free agency recently, one of the first things he likely did was see if his number was available, which it wasn't.
That's because the No. 33 was owned by Titans second-year cornerback and former undrafted free-agent signing, Eric Garror. But that didn't stop Adams from getting it.
Adams spoke to the media on Wednesday on the first day of training camp practice and revealed he had to pay Garror off to get the number. He did not say how much it cost him, though.
"I'm not going to say it was a tough process (to get No. 33), but it was a process," Adams said. "I'm just grateful that (Garror) allowed me to get the jersey number back.
"Obviously, it means so much to me. It's just not a number, it's a family number for me. I've never been a different number. Since I started playing football at age three, I've always been 33. It's tatted on me."
When asked if the process of getting his number involved cash, Adams said, "It did, but it's OK. It was worth it."

Garror ultimately landed on No. 25, and now he has some extra money in his bank account.
