After the Tennessee Titans secured a perfect preseason record with a 30-27 win over the New Orleans Saints on Sunday, the team will now turn its focus to cutting the roster down to 53 players.
The deadline to do that falls on Tuesday, Aug. 27, at 4 p.m. ET, but the Titans have already begun to trim their roster down before then. Keep in mind, this will only be the initial 53-man roster.
The Titans will make more moves before they take the field for Week 1, and those moves could involve immediately picking up players who were dropped by other teams, whether that be on the waiver wire or in free agency.
Tennessee has at least one position group it'll be looking to add to. The defensive line was already shaky in terms of depth, but an injury to TK McLendon only adds to the concern there.
Head coach Brian Callahan touched on the process of cutting down the roster after the game on Sunday and thanked all the players for the effort they put in this offseason.
"I thank them for their effort, appreciated everything they've given us," Callahan said, per Jim Wyatt of TennesseeTitans.com. "And, again, worst part of the job probably comes (on Tuesday) and we've got to cut the roster down, but that's life in the NFL. We've got to get to 53 and that's just how it goes."
