When Buccaneers running back Doug Martin rushed for 1,454 yards and 11 touchdowns as a rookie three seasons ago, it appeared Tampa Bay had found the NFL's next star running back. Yet, injuries and poor offensive line play stifled his development during his second and third seasons.
However, Martin, who was once nicknamed "The Muscle Hamster," has rebounded in a big way this season, and the Buccaneers have begun talks with him on a contract extension, according to The Tampa Tribune.

"We’ve already talked a little bit,’’ Bucs general manager Jason Licht said. “We will definitely be talking (more). We’d love to have Doug back.’’
Martin already has 1,354 yards and six touchdowns on the ground this season, which almost triples his average over the last two seasons. Martin also has a 5.0 yards per carry average through Week 16. He averaged under 4.0 before this season.
Despite missing out on the playoffs, Martin remains focused on Sunday's clash against the Panthers as the Buccaneers try to avoid finishing last in the NFC South.
“I love it here (Tampa Bay) and I have a beautiful home here,’’ Martin said. “I’d love to come back. But right now I’m focused on our last game. I’m aware they’re talking, but I’ll let them handle that for now.’’
