Super Bowl 2019 results: Score, highlights as Patriots beat Rams for Tom Brady's sixth championship image

Super Bowl 53 did not belong to Tom Brady, but it may have cemented his status as the greatest quarterback of all time.

HAISLOP: In sports math, Pats' sixth is a big number

New England's defense grabbed most of the attention in a 13-3 win over Los Angeles on Sunday night, holding the Rams to 260 yards in the lowest-scoring Super Bowl in NFL history. Brady did not throw for a touchdown, and the defining moment came when Stephon Gilmore picked off Rams quarterback Jared Goff late in the fourth quarter.

STEELE: Rams waste all-time defensive performance

But with an NFL-record six championships now under his name, Brady's legacy nonetheless grew. After throwing an early interception, the Hall of Fame-bound signal-caller settled in for an efficient, mistake-averse outing, finishing 21 of 35 passing for 262 yards.

(All times Eastern)

10:28 p.m. — Edelman has been named Super Bowl MVP. He was the one constant for New England's offense throughout that win, continuously breaking free from a tough group of defensive backs.

10:04 p.m. — Final: Patriots 13, Rams 3.

10:03 p.m. — No good. The Rams miss a 48-yard field goal attempt. This one is over.

9:58 p.m. — FIELD GOAL, Patriots. That kick juuuuust snuck inside the left upright. 13-3, Patriots.

9:56 p.m. — Rams stop the Patriots a smidge short on third-and-1.

9:52 p.m. — Two-minute warning.

9:48 p.m. — A first-down burst by Rex Burkhead might just seal this one. We're at 2:30 remaining and the Rams have no timeouts.

9:45 p.m. — Huge run. Michel.

9:41 p.m. — Interception! Gilmore plucks it out of the air. With that, New England is in full command.

9:40 p.m. — Now the Rams are clicking. Goff finds Robert Woods and LA is suddenly at the Patriots' 29.

9:33 p.m. — TOUCHDOWN, Patriots. Michel pounds it in. 10-3, Patriots.

9:10 p.m. — End of third quarter.

9:09 p.m. — Michel rushes to around midfield, breaking a few tackles in the process.

9:03 p.m. — FIELD GOAL, Rams. A 53-yard field goal by Greg Zuerlein ties the game after Goff was sacked on third down. 3-3.

9:02 p.m. — The Rams are moving the ball here. They almost had a touchdown throw to Brandin Cooks and now face third-and-7 at the 29.

8:53 p.m. — Aaaaaaaand time for another punt, this time by the Patriots. Back and forth we go.

8:47 p.m. — Nowhere for Goff to go with the ball. Eight straight punts by the Rams. The longest punt in Super Bowl history at least helps reverse field position.

8:42 p.m. — Rams cornerback Marcus Peters breaks up a Brady pass on third-and-2 to force a punt.

8:40 p.m. — Edelman makes a 27-yard catch. That's the biggest play for either team tonight.

8:37 p.m. — The Rams punt, their drive falling apart following a promising start.

8:34 p.m. — Patriots defender Patrick Chung appeared to suffer a serious arm injury while tackling Gurley.

8:32 p.m. —  Todd Gurley has had a couple of nice runs on this drive. The running lanes weren't there in the first half.

8:28 p.m. — The second half is underway. Los Angeles gets the ball first.

8:19 p.m. — This Super Bowl commercial featured plenty of NFL legends.

7:57 p.m. — Halftime.

7:54 p.m. — New England goes for it on fourth-and-1 in field goal territory but does not convert.

7:47 p.m. — Edelman is almost past 100 yards receiving in the first half. He's at 93 right now on seven catches.

7:42 p.m. — Goff is walloped behind the line on third-and-2, prompting another punt for LA.

7:36 p.m. — It's New England's turn to punt. There are about six minutes remaining in the first half.

7:30 p.m. — Despite the benefit of a catch that maybe should not have been ruled a catch, the Rams are forced to punt for the fourth time.

7:24 p.m. — FIELD GOAL, Patriots. Finally, we have points. Gostkowski is now 1 for 2 on field goal attempts.  3-0, Patriots.

7:17 p.m. — The Rams offense is really struggling right now. Another drive stalls, and New England will now take over with decent field position as a result.

7:12 p.m. — End of first quarter.

7:11 p.m. — The Patriots punt it deep and pin the Rams inside the 10.

7:09 p.m. — Immediately after the positive play, Brady is stripped in the pocket. New England falls on the loose ball and maintains possession.

7:08 p.m. — Brady connects with Julian Edelman down the sideline for a big play.

7:03 p.m. — The Rams again pin New England inside the 20.

6:52 p.m. — No good. Stephen Gostkowski misses a field goal attempt from 46 yards out.

6:46 p.m. — LA is flagged for an illegal hit to move the chains for New England. Looked like a call that could have gone either way.

6:42 p.m. — The Patriots get a stop and will take over again inside their own 20.

6:37 p.m. — Interception! Brady is picked off and the Rams will get an opportunity to strike first.

6:34 p.m. — New England's first play from scrimmage is a nice run by Sony Michel for a first down.

6:33 p.m. — Kickoff.

6:30 p.m. — Rams win the coin toss. They elect to kick first.
