The Pittsburgh Steelers had both Russell Wilson and Justin Fields playing in the preseason Week 2 game against the Buffalo Bills on Saturday night, yet they only mustered up three points in a 9-3 loss.
Wilson completed 8-of-10 passes for 47 yards and was sacked three times, although not all of them were on his offensive line. Meanwhile, Fields completed 11-of-17 passes for 92 yards and was sacked once, and he added 42 yards on the ground, leading the team.
Wilson played a total of five drives before giving way to Fields the rest of the way. His drives went punt, punt, punt, punt, missed field goal. The first four drives went for under 10 yards (one was -11), and the fifth went for 22.
But the quarterback play wasn't the only issue, as the offensive line certainly had its problems to make things more difficult.
Despite the terrible showing, the Steelers actually had a chance to win the game late when they got the ball back at their own 28-yard line with 1:56 remaining. However, Pittsburgh couldn't even move the sticks.
Through two preseason games, the Steelers have scored just 15 points and the play has been sloppy overall. Safe to say, Pittsburgh's offense isn't instilling any confidence that a better season is coming on that side of the ball.
After an inept showing, the Steelers were absolutely roasted on social media, and rightly so.
The Steelers offense is so ugly, it’s crazy that Tomlin hired Arthur Smith after he did such a bad job in ATL.

DO YOU UNDERSTAND HOW PATHETIC IT IS THAT WE LET RUSSELL WILSON AND JUSTIN FIELDS PLAY THE ENTIRE GAME AND WE ONLY SCORED 3 POINTS?

This team is PATHETIC
Steelers just lost a preseason game in which they only played Russell Wilson and Justin Fields at QB, this team might be the worst in the league

Kenny Pickett has taken a bunch of sacks and has a sickly yards per pass attempt average for the Philadelphia Eagles this preseason. And has played better than either Russell Wilson or Justin Fields in doing so. #HereWeGo #Steelers

Russell Wilson vs Justin Fields is the battle of Mid.

Just laughable qb play from both of them.
I feel bad for Steelers fans.
The Steelers have no offensive line and no QB.

Steelers fans:
"Go get Aiyuk now!"
The Steelers offensive line is somehow worse this year
— Loren Porter (@rorochub2) August 18, 2024
I didn't think that was possible
Good game @rcsmith79
You guys made us look pathetic. We helped though
Steelers offensive line is horrid

#Steelers offensive line looking a lot like marshmallows in a cup of hot cocoa.
