Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Justin Fields got the start in the preseason Week 1 game against the Houston Texans with Russell Wilson not playing and his night is done after three drives.
Fields completed 5-of-6 passes for 67 yards for a passer rating of 113.2. He also added three carries for two yards. Unfortunately, he wasn't able to orchestrate a scoring drive in his three series.
On his first drive, Fields started off strong with a dump-off to running back Najee Harris for 16 yards, and he connected with wide receiver George Pickens for a 15-yard gain.
After a fumble on a bad exchange with center Nate Herbig that the Steelers recovered and a short gain on a second-down run, Fields checked it down to tight end Pat Freiermuth on third down but was short of the sticks, leading to a punt.
The second drive was his shortest of the evening, as the Steelers went three-and-out after another bad exchange with Herbig and a third-down sack by Texans edge rusher Danielle Hunter, who beat rookie tackle Troy Fautanu on the right side.
Fields came back on the next drive and found Pickens again for a nine-yard gain that saw the signal-caller go sidearm to complete the pass.

He then connected with wide receiver Van Jefferson for a 20-yard pass for what was his longest completion of the game. The drive stalled once again, though, as Fields was sacked on third down, the second sack he took on the night.

Overall, it was a solid showing for Fields, but it could have been better if not for the two sacks and pair of bad snaps. Chances are he didn't make much headway in his quest to unseat Wilson as the No. 1 option under center.
