Just one day after Pittsburgh Steelers general manager Omar Khan said there was nothing new happening in terms of trading for a wide receiver and that he was happy with the players he already has, a report states that the team is confident something will happen with one of three stud wide receivers.
According to Chris Halicke of DK Pittsburgh Sports, the Steelers are "convinced" that they will land one of the San Francisco 49ers' Brandon Aiyuk, the Miami Dolphins' Tyreek Hill, or the Seattle Seahawks' DK Metcalf.
While the Steelers thinking Aiyuk might be attainable isn't surprising considering he just demanded a trade, the other two names are. After all, there haven't been any rumors saying Hill or Metcalf could be traded.
Sooner or later, this may all work out in Pittsburgh's favor. Khan has long been in discussions with other teams about receivers that could be traded. And, according to a team source, the Steelers are "convinced" they are going to land Aiyuk, DK Metcalf or Tyreek Hill in a trade at some point.
Hill is seeking a new contract in Miami, but as he told reporters on Tuesday, he does not want to be traded, something he made very clear to his agent, Drew Rosenhaus.
“The only thing I told (agent) Drew (Rosenhaus) was, ‘Do not get me traded, bro. The last time you did this, you got me traded,'” Hillsaid. “That’s been my only thing to him … I want to stay here in Miami, man. This is where family is now. Everybody loves it here, family loves it, wife loves it, kids love it … Obviously, I love playing for coach [Mike McDaniel], and my teammates are awesome. I wouldn’t want to leave, man.”
Outside of speculation, there has been nothing to suggest that Metcalf might be dealt. He is in the second year of his current deal and remains an integral part of the Seahawks' offense, both in the short and long term, as he's only 26.
49ers general manager John Lynch indicated this week that he isn't ruling out anything when it comes to his stud receiver, but he also stated that the team fully intends on holding on to Aiyuk, who can be franchise-tagged in 2025.
It goes without saying that any one of those wide receivers would be a massive upgrade for Pittsburgh and they absolutely should be in on them if any become available moving forward.
